Chenevert Photography offers fine art, black and white portraiture; a combination of natural light in a comfortable setting, a casual approach and the amazing candor of childhood.
Each photo sitting is truly as unique as its subject. A sitting can range anywhere from 1 to 2 hrs. Early morning or sunset shoots are ideal in terms of lighting, but it's important to select a time of the day when your children are at their best.
I recommend a location where your children can easily and freely express themselves. It might be frolicking in fountains at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, or perhaps it's creating memories in your own backyard. In the colder months, a variety of lovely indoor options are available. And, of course, the comfort of your own home is always a great choice.

My assistant and I will travel to clients in Chicago and the Chicagoland suburbs.

Because Chicago weather is unpredictable even in the summer, it’s best to plan an indoor option just in case. A final decision on location can be made up to an hour before the photo shoot. Supplemental studio style lighting is also available, as needed.
I recommend that children wear comfortable clothes in solid colors. (Busy patterns or clothing with writing can be distracting.) White or dark hues maximize contrast with wonderful, dramatic results. Textures such as cable knit, fleece or denim always look nice on film. Dress-up clothes and bare feet can be a lot of fun too. It’s best to minimize costume changes if possible to avoid disrupting the “flow” of the photo shoot. Less is more, and simple outfits always work the best.
Parents should be open to spontaneity and unexpected surprises. It's these possibilities that produce the realism in unforgettable images. Props are not always needed during the photo shoot, but it's a good idea to have a favorite toy, book or music on hand just in case. Always have healthy snacks available when a break is needed. Most importantly, relax and have fun. And feel free to jump in for some shots. Additional family members are always free of charge.
The sitting fee includes 3 rolls of film, and 1hr - 2 hrs photo shoot on location, an experienced assistant, and film processing. The sitting fee is due at the time of the photo shoot. A $50 cancellation fee will be charged if a photo shoot is cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled time.
